Summary

Current research indicates that personalized education is the basis for successfully addressing gaps in knowledge, and that online environments have great potential for personalized teaching and learning. The purpose of the proposed research is to research, develop, and implement tools for personalized online teaching and learning, which provide a solution to the variety of high- school science students. The research will use the personalized teaching and learning (PeTeL) environment, which is currently in its advanced stages of development and implementation in the Department of Science Teaching at the Weizmann Institute of Science. We assume that the ability of the PeTeL environment to provide teachers with a cognitive-emotional-social picture of each learner in his/her class in real time will support the approach of using teaching methods that address learners’ different demands. Based on this information, the system presents the teachers’ class situation, and offers them tailored activities for each student. The proposed research method combines quantitative research methods, educational data mining methods (EDM), and statistical tools for data analysis.
The research will be accompanied by a team of techno-pedagogical experts who specialize in locating, adapting, developing, and accessing educational technologies, as well as supporting teachers in the use of educational technologies.

The project received a grant from the Chief Scientist of the Ministry of Education as part of a call for proposals No. 202012. / 36 Research on the subject of personalization of online teaching.
