The Department of Science Teaching at the Weizmann Institute was created in 1968 by Professor Amos De Shalit. It is a full-fledged academic department whose main mission is to advance the field of science and mathematics education at large, and to impact science and mathematics education in Israel. A central goal of the department is to develop academic and practical leadership in mathematics and science education. Our work is based on an underlying philosophy that considers research, development and implementation, teacher professional development, and evaluation as interrelated and continuous long-term activities that feed and guide each other through interactive spiral cycles. These activities are conceived, guided and tested with the highest academic standards, using and refining existing theoretical frames or producing new ones when needed.

The department works in full cooperation with the Davidson Institute of Science Education.
