Summary

A design research project investigating a new video-based PD model in the form of a professional learning community (PLC). This model integrates the proven strengths of the VIDEO-LM model, with the well-established advantages of the Japanese lesson study approach, and introduces a novel structure of facilitation. The design is implemented in a multi-site multi-year setting, to pursue the central aim of operationalizing the notion of sustainability in the context of a video-based PLC, and developing methods to better understand processes that enhance, or alternatively narrow, opportunities for sustained personal and collective developments in teacher practices. In addition, we explore possible potencies and limitations of this integrated model, with the aim of arriving at general comprehensions regarding the design and implementation of video-based PD programs for mathematics teachers that aspire to make a solid and long-lasting change in teachers’ practices.
