Professional learning communities of computer science teachers
Leading team
Summary
In the 2017-2018 school year, the central professional learning community (PLC) of computer science teachers was established at the Weizmann Institute. During the following years five regional PLCs have been established in different locations. The regional communities are led by teachers who participate in the central community. The PLCs foster professional development tailored to the needs of teachers as they arise from their practice and in accordance with the needs of the various populations. Their goal is to create a friendly and supporting environment that encourages the teachers to discuss and address problems which they experience in their practical work. The PLCs promote also the development of learning and teaching materials in accordance with practical needs and authentic practice.
The accumulation of the knowledge constructed in the PLCs will exploit the PeTeL environment of the computer science group, currently in development.
