Summary

The ENGAGE Project is funded by the PF7 European Commission, under the ‘science in society’ call. This project aims to boost the engagement of the younger generation with socio-scientific issues (SSI). To this end, the project team developed ‘science in the news’ curriculum materials. The materials are ready-to-use, open educational resources, with each module consisting of a teacher’s guide, student worksheets, and a presentation. The designed materials are reinforced with theoretical and practical SSI foci regarding the nature of context, the role of teachers and students, exercises (discourse, argumentation, critical thinking), and the integration of science content. The project materials are available in nine different languages, and have been adapted for local contexts and curriculums for each of the 12 participant countries.
