Resistance to Antibiotics. עמידות של מיקרואורגניזמים בפני חומרים אנטיביוטיים<\/a>, שבעבר היו רגישים להם. עמידות זו מקורה באבולוציה של מערכות ומנגנונים בחיידק, המאפשרים לו לפרק את החומר האנטיביוטי או לנטרל את פעולתו. מנגנונים אלה נוצרו עקב מוטציות בגנים המקודדים לאנזימים המתאימים. רבים מן הגנים האלה נמצאים בטבעות DNA חוץ-כרומוזומיות הנקראות פלסמידים. פלסמידים עוברים בקלות מתא לתא, וכך מפיצים עמידויות לחומרים אנטיביוטיים שונים באוכלוסיית החיידקים.<\/p>\n
