(Diabetes (Diabetes Mellitus. מחלה שתסמינה רמת גלוקוז גבוהה ונגרמת על ידי הפרעה ביכולת הייצור או השימוש בהורמון אינסולין<\/a> השומר על רמה קבועה של גלוקוז בדם. כאשר ריכוז הסוכר עולה (לדוגמא אחרי ארוחה עתירת פחמימות), האינסולין מגביר תהליך שבו חד-סוכרים הופכים לגליקוגן (בכבד ובשרירים). ולהפך: כאשר ריכוז הסוכר בדם יורד (לדוגמא אחרי פעילות גופנית מאומצת), האינסלין מגביר פירוק של גליקוגן<\/a> לחד-סוכרים. קיימים שני טיפוסי סוכרת<\/a>: טיפוס I ידוע כסכרת תלוית אינסולין<\/a>, טיפוס II סכרת שאינה תלוית אינסולין<\/a>.<\/p>\n
