כיום, בתחילתו של מילניום חדש, ועם ההתפתחות המואצת שעשינו בתחומי המדע, הרפואה והטכנולוגיה, עדיין ישנם אזורים בעולם, ובמיוחד באפריקה ובאסיה, שבהם שורר רעב כתוצאה ממשבר המזון העולמי.<\/p>\n

ישנן סיבות רבות למשבר המזון. ביניהן מחסור במשאבים<\/a> לקניית מזון, מחסור בידע למיסוד חקלאות<\/a> טובה ויעילה, נזקי אקלים ומזיקים טבעיים, מחסור בדרכי תעבורה יעילות להעברת הסחורות, וכן מלחמות וסכסוכים פוליטיים. כתוצאה מכך ישנם מיליוני אנשים בעולם שחסר להם מזון, ועבור חלקם המחסור מהווה סכנת חיים (כ-15-20 מיליון<\/strong> איש מתים מדי שנה מסיבות הקשורות ברעב).<\/p>\n

אוכלוסיית העולם גדלה מאוד בשנים האחרונות, והיא צפויה עוד להמשיך ולגדול. על מנת לספק מזון לאוכלוסייה הגדלה נדרש מדע החקלאות להשתכלל כך שהייצור יעלה ואיכותו תשתפר. אחת מהדרכים לעשות זאת היא ההנדסה הגנטית<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
