תקציר
פרויקט "מדעי החומר" לחטיבת הביניים (כיתות ז'-ט') החל בשנת 1994 בפיתוח סדרת חומרי למידה והוראה כחלק מתכנית הלימודים מטמ"ון MATMON) (1996-2002) )והמשיך בסדרה מתוקנת ומחודשת של תכנית הלימודים של מטמו"ן חדש (MATMON HADASH)) מאז 2010.
במסגרת פרוייקט זה פותחו: (א) רצפי הוראה לנושא "מדעי החומר" (ב) שיטות לפיתוח הבנה של "הרעיונות הגדולים" בתחום, (ג) גישות המדגישות את רלוונטיות החומרים הנלמדים לתלמידים, במטרה להקנות אוריינות מדעית לכלל הלומדים ו- (ד) פדגוגיות מבוססות מחקר לתמיכה בלמידה משמעותית ובעיקר שילוב הוראת תכנים ומיומנויות בסדר גבוה, ממורכזת תלמיד, שימוש באמצעים מתוקשבים ומענה לצרכים מגוונים של הלומדים).
מחקר מלווה התמקד בהבנת האופן בו ממשיגים התלמידים את מבנה החומר, תוך שימוש במתודולוגיה רעיונית אורכית, במסגרתה ניתחנו את האתגרים והתקדמות התלמידים במודל החלקיקים: מחלקיקים לאטומים ומולקולות. בדקנו גם את ההיתכנות והתרומה הפוטנציאלית של שימוש במודלים (למשל "הקופסה השחורה") ובמיקרוסקופים ברזולוציה גבוהה כגון מיקרוסקופ המנהור הסורק (STM) ככלי למידה אודות מודל החלקיקים של החומר במדעי חטיבת הביניים.
